All you need is the breath
All you need to do is breathe! It is an interesting fact that when we are following our breath, to the exclusion to all other mental activity, we are transported instantly into the present moment. It sounds easy but can be very difficult to achieve because most of us are not in the habit of inhabiting that realm! Our mind is so often thinking of the past, and the future. Rarely are we right here right now, but the breath is the one thing that is always in the ‘NOW’. The breath is our quick link to the continually residing mind of peace within each of us.
So, how? Find a place where you will not be disturbed for at least ten minutes. Then:
Begin by focusing on the nostril area, and begin to watch the breath as it enters and leaves the nostrils. You may feel that it is cooler on the in-breath, and warmer on the out-breath. Just keep your attention in that area, and your breath should start to become more and more noticeable. Then start to release conscious control over your breath, and just let the breathe flow as it wants to. Your breath may begin to change, and grow gentler and slower. The yogis believe that when we breathe in this way our breath starts to move into harmony with the universal breath. It certainly feels great! You will start to feel very peaceful within. Stay there for as long as you can, and move deeper and deeper into your silent space of inner tranquillity. .
